CODE OF CONDUCT

At MTH! Academy we encourage our students to be confident, unique individuals and to explore their talents in a fun, safe environment without judgement. We expect our students of all ages to be kind, considerate and respectful to the staff and to one another at all times.

Our reward chart system in Junior and Senior Musical Theatre classes helps the students to understand their boundaries and to celebrate improvement, supporting their peers or having a positive attitude. When the students move up into the Technique class, individuals at this stage are expected to take more personal responsibility by demonstrating a strong discipline, maturity and focus. Praising and celebrating individuals achievements continues to enable further progression. Our dance classes are structured and build discipline without the aid of a chart system.

Good behaviour and politeness is paramount in class, in rehearsals or back stage, this applies for all ages. Students are asked that when in the theatre a high respect is shown to the building, chaperones and theatre staff - both front of house and backstage.

When it comes to casting any of our school productions, inevitably we have disappointed students who don't get the role they have their heart set on. We are very sensitive to this and ask our parents and students to trust our decision and understand that casting a show can be very intricate, taking into consideration a lot of factors. If a child isn't cast in a role, this doesn't mean they aren't talented enough - it could just come down to their height or hair colour, as an example.

MOBILE PHONE & ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY

To prevent lost or stolen phones or electronic devices, we have a safe storage unit in The Recreation Rooms where we ask all students to put their devices on silent and place them at the beginning of class.

We can not be responsible for any lost or stolen items brought onto the premises and the owner does so at their own risk.

BEHAVIOUR POLICY

To create a safe environment, we enforce a structure to prevent any untoward scenarios occurring.

When poor behaviour is identified, sanctions will be implemented. The following actions will be taken depending on the severity of the incident.

  • A warning that the behaviour is unacceptable and an explanation as to why it is unacceptable.

  • An explanation of what is expected of them and the disciplinary measure to be taken if the behaviour does not adhere to the behaviour policy. This can include sitting out of the lesson.  Children are given the opportunity to make amends for their behaviour and, unless it is judged inappropriate, be able to rejoin the classes

  • In more extreme cases MTH! Academy will use temporary or permanent exclusion involving parents and the police if necessary.

The following behaviour is not acceptable but not limited to:

  • Threats of physical harm or actual physical harm

  • Behaviour or language (verbal or written) that may cause anyone to feel offended, afraid, threatened or abused

  • Insulting or degrading language

  • Grabbing or smacking (being physically overfamiliar)

  • Threats, verbal abuse, shouting, obscene / derogatory remarks and rudeness

  • Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, disablist comments, or other harassment based on personal characteristics

  • Name-calling and any form of bullying (including cyberbullying and use of email, text and video/sound recordings to facilitate bullying)

  • Sharing of any inappropriate images online or via electronic devices

We ask all students to report any personal issues or concerns about their peers immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead Kate West or Designated Safeguarding Deputy Richard Reynard
